The A – Z of Music: C

For ‘C’, I’ll turn to the world of musical theatre. To be specific, to Carousel. Created by Rodgers and Hammerstein, who were also behind Oklahoma, South Pacific and The Sound of Music, it doesn’t seem to be so well remembered these days as their other hits; but it’s my personal favourite.

It has many great songs, but I’ve chosen the Ballet, as it contains many of the musical’s most beautiful themes:

P.S. Carousel also contains the song You’ll Never Walk Alone, which can often be heard sung at football games. I think it’s kind of funny that that most manly of breeds, the British football fan, should be singing a show tune for all the world to hear.
